AMD is banking on the upcoming Windows 11 version 24H2 update to address performance issues with its new Zen 5 CPUs, as well as boost performance for older Zen 4 and Zen 3 processors. This update, set to roll out next month, will include optimizations specific to AMD's branch prediction code, which AMD hopes will significantly improve performance.
For the Ryzen 9000 series, AMD predicts a 13% performance improvement in Far Cry 6 and a 7% boost in Cyberpunk 2077 with the 24H2 update. This comes as a response to the less impressive early reviews of the Ryzen 9 9950X, which, compared to its predecessor, the Ryzen 9 7950X, showed only marginal gains in gaming and productivity benchmarks.
While the Ryzen 9000 series did not initially live up to AMD’s performance promises, especially in gaming scenarios, the company asserts that the new update will address these shortcomings and enhance the performance of its CPUs across various applications, including content creation and AI. It remains to be seen how the update will affect real-world benchmarks once it is released and tested by reviewers.
