Apple to update EU browser options, make more apps deletable

Apple is making significant changes to how users in the European Union can manage default apps and browser options on their devices, responding to regulatory pressure under the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA). Starting later this year, Apple will introduce a new "choice screen" allowing users to select their default browser from a randomly ordered list of 12 options the first time they open Safari. This update will also make more Apple apps, including Safari, deletable, with only the Settings and Phone apps remaining non-deletable.

The changes come after criticism from browser companies and an ongoing investigation by the European Commission, which will continue to monitor the effectiveness of these updates. Additionally, Apple plans to introduce a dedicated area for setting default apps, including options for messaging, phone calls, and more. These updates will also apply to iPads through a software update later this year.
